Emily Walhout

Emily Walhout grew up playing the cello, but it was not until attending college that she discovered her love for baroque bass lines, and at Oberlin Conservatory she took up the baroque cello and the viola da gamba. Ms Walhout, whose playing has been described as "soulful and expressive " by The New York Times, is currently a member of the ensemble Les Délices (dir. Debra Nagy), based in Cleveland, as well as Boston's Carthage Consort. She was a founding member of La Luna, an ensemble of two violins and continuo, and from 1987 through 2004 played bass violin with The King's Noyse. She has toured as a chamber musician throughout North America and Europe and has recorded extensively with the Boston Camerata, La Luna, and The King's Noyse. She has also been solo gambist or principal cellist for the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, Seattle Baroque, the Portland Baroque Orchestra, Les Violons du Roy (Quebec City), the New York Collegium, Les Boréades (Montreal), and the Trinity Consort (Portland, OR), and has performed and recorded on lirone with Les Voix Baroques, the Handel & Haydn Society, and Montreal Baroque.
