Take your place in music history...
Become a Peterhouse Partner!
Copied in 1540 for Canterbury Cathedral, the Peterhouse partbooks are the largest and most important extant source of pre-Reformation English sacred music: magnificent masses, Magnificats, and votive antiphons by Thomas Tallis, John Taverner, Hugh Aston, Nicholas Ludford, Richard Pygott, Robert Jones and John Mason. This vital repertoire has gone unsung and unheard for centuries, due in large part to the disappearance of some of the parts.
Now, with brilliant and idiomatic reconstructions by British musicologist Nick Sandon, Blue Heron is bringing this music to life and will help secure the central position in music history and concert repertoire that it merits.
Blue Heron is in the process of recording an historic five-CD series of Music from the Peterhouse Partbooks, bringing this vital but neglected repertoire to modern audiences. Volumes I and II in the series have already received international critical acclaim. Peterhouse Volume III, featuring the premiere recordings of major works by Nicholas Ludford and John Mason which the ensemble performs live in Boston, Cambridge and New York this season, will be released in 2013, and the remaining two series CDs are slated for 2014 and 2015. This is an ambitious and expensive project and we have established a special fund to support it.
The Peterhouse Partners are a group of lead donors who pledge between $500 and $5,000 per recording. We are grateful to the 20 Partners whose support has already made Peterhouse I and II a reality.
Now, we are looking for 15 more Partners to make the same pledge for each of the three remaining discs in the series. Please join us – and become a part of music history!
Partners receive a specially produced gold-tone CD of each release, invitations to private launch parties, recognition in the internationally distributed recording booklets, and exclusive invitations to observe recording sessions.
For more detailed information, or to make your pledge, please contact Board President John Yannis at jy@blueheronchoir.org.
Not ready to commit as a Partner? We need and appreciate individual contributions of any amount to this year's recording, Peterhouse Vol. III. Donors of $50 and up will be acknowledged in the CD booklet.
